Murph's Take on the Acumatica 2026:R2 Update

Written by William Murphy | Oct 7, 2026, 5:44:59 AM

Acumatica is a multi-faceted Enterprise Resource Planner (ERP), which I now like to refer to as an “Enterprise Resource Platform." The diversity of Acumatica is well demonstrated in the recent release of their 2026:R2 Update.

This article is only a brief summary of some of the most significant ‘updates’ within this newest release. In future installments of The ERP Update we will have take a deeper-dive into some of these new features.

General Business Features

The 2026:R2 General Business Edition puts AI to work across finance and sales. While business teams are under growing pressure to move faster, cut manual work, and act on better insight without adding complexity, Acumatia’s AI-assisted finance brings them streamlined payments and compliance, along with smarter selling into the application they already are using.

Here's some of what's new in Acumatica's 2026:R2 financials:

  • AI Assistant for Finance turns your reports from a record of what happened into a conversation about why. Your team asks questions in plain language and gets answers drawn from live Acumatica data, from why operating expenses jumped to where the biggest risks sit right now. Answers are grounded in the same trusted inquiries that power your screens and stay inside each user's permissions. For more information, see Financial Generic Inquiries in AI Assistant.

  • Faster, more accurate bank reconciliation through improved matching of bank transactions by payee, cutting the manual review your finance team does at close. For more information, see Bank Reconciliation: Transaction Matching.
  • Simplified 1099 compliance with direct filing through the IRS's new IRIS e-filing system, streamlining a year-end process that has long been tedious and error-prone. See these topics for more information: Configuring 1099 Reporting and Filing 1099 Forms Electronically.

When it comes to Payments, Acumatica 2026:R2 includes updates to the built-in payment capabilities, responding user requests for an all-inclusive Acumatica ERP. New payment features include:

  • Acumatica AP Payments, powered by AvidXchange – Now included in the core platform as of 2026:R2, this release incorporates improved payment status reporting and built-in stop payment and reissue functionality, along with enhancements for suppliers. For more information on using the AvidXchange integration, see Processing Payments Through AvidXchange

  • Acumatica AP Payments, powered by BILL – New support for foreign currency transactions and improved maintenance for international vendor profiles, along with faster and same-day ACH payments and faster check payments. Check out: Processing International Payments, Create an International Payment, and Schedule External Payment Processing for more details.

•    Acumatica AR Payments, powered by Fortis – Improvements to multiple payments functions.

These deeply-embedded features – created and delivered with leading Payments partners are designed to solve real customer needs and are purpose built to drive results that set both partners and customers apart.

And Acumatica’s CRM also has some new functionality in this release:

  • AI Email Sentiment and Urgency Analysis reads incoming customer email for sentiment and urgency, automatically flagging the messages that need attention first so your team responds to the most urgent customer issues first. For information, see CRM: AI-Assisted Customer Communication Analysis.
  • Marketing Subscription Management lets customers manage their preferences by mailing list category instead of a single opt-out, for cleaner, more compliant, and more relevant communication.

  • Guided Selling with Upsell, Cross-Sell, and Real-Time Inventory surfaces recommendations alongside real-time inventory in opportunities and quotes, so your team builds bigger deals it can actually deliver. For more information see, Processing Sales of Related Items.

  • A More Powerful Modern Activity Stream adds filtering by message content and inline attachment viewing, so finding the right interaction takes fewer clicks.

Platform Enhancements

Platform Enhancements include a host of new AI and reporting capabilities across Acumatica. Updates to the platform range from agent-building tools in AI Automation and expanded AI Assistant skills to a new way to connect external AI tools through MCP. Acumatica 2026:R2 advances AI Automation, AI Assistant, and MCP together.

Added capabilities include:

  • Agents, replacing prompts in AI Automation, with the ability to retrieve and update records directly and reach your own custom fields.
  • Agent chaining through workflow actions and Business Events.
  • MCP, a read-only GI capability for external AI chat tools to query your Acumatica data.
  • Four new AI Assistant capabilities: Self-Aware, Context-Aware, Widget Agent, and Help Agent.

This release also brings enhancements to Generic Inquiries, Pivots and Charts, and Data Warehousing, giving administrators and business users more control over how they access, shape, and report on their data. 2026:R2 will enable users to:

  • Aggregate and calculate data directly within Generic Inquiry results using new grouping and formula support, without exporting to Excel.

    • Restrict access to specific Generic Inquiries by role or user, giving administrators finer control over who can view or modify sensitive inquiries.
    • Leverage pivots and charts that now support time series analysis, letting users trend data over custom date ranges and intervals directly within reporting widgets.
    • Deploy Data Warehousing, a new way to store Generic Inquiry results as materialized views with scheduled refresh, speeding up dashboards, pivots, and MCP queries built on complex GIs.

Manufacturing Features

Manufacturers can't afford scheduling guesswork, material-handling gaps, or planning noise. Not when margins are thin and customers expect real-time answers. Acumatica 2026:R2 Manufacturing Edition delivers an improved scheduling engine, a shop-floor kiosk built for real production and material reporting, and AI-ready insights directly into planners' and operators' hands.

This new product release delivers enhancements that improve replenishment precision, scheduling flexibility, shop floor execution, and AI-powered visibility, helping manufacturers make smarter, faster decisions.

Here are some key highlights:

  • MRP Support for Reorder Point Planning introduces a dedicated Stocking Method, Min./Max. or Fixed Reorder Qty., so planners can replenish to a true maximum stock level or a real economic order quantity, instead of a single blended threshold, while cutting down on false "Expedite" alerts. For more details see Inventory Planning with MRP and Performing Inventory Planning with DRP.

  • Advanced Planning and Scheduling Engine Improvements allow schedulers to select which work centers to schedule finitely and which to schedule infinitely, provide a configurable finite window so schedulers can see long-term capacity needs, and properly rationalize capacity across multiple, overlapping shift calendars, giving planners a more accurate view of available capacity. For more details see Advanced Planning and Scheduling (Optimized).

  • Shop Floor Kiosk 2.0 extends SFK beyond backflush-only manufacturers, letting operators issue full or partial quantities (on or off the BOM), substitute components, search and select by Lot/Serial Attributes, and reverse mistakes directly on the shop floor.

  • AI-Ready Scheduling and Costing Inquiries, when enabled, expose new manufacturing-specific Generic Inquiries to the Acumatica AI Assistant, giving planners, materials handlers, and operations managers plain-language answers on material requirements, schedule status, and order risk.

Acumatica 2026:R2 is built to simplify workflows, sharpen planning accuracy, and provide a powerful, easy-to-use solution for today's manufacturers.

Distribution Features

Distributors need a variety of resources to compete, and Acumatica strives to deliver. At the top of Distributors’ list are warehouses that pick smarter, deliver more reliably, and ship more efficiently. Acumatica 2026:R2 strengthens execution and control across the warehouse, order promising, and shipping, so you operate with higher efficiency, lower risk, and greater confidence in your ERP system. Here are some key highlights of the new release:

  • Available-to-Promise calculates a realistic ship date for a sales order line or the entire order by evaluating future supply (purchase orders, transfers, production, kit assembly) against future demand, so CSRs can give customers a data-backed date instead of an open-ended backorder. For more details see Availability Calculation Rules

  • Unit of Measure–Based Picking introduces Warehouse Planning Strategies, including a Unit of Handling classification and zone-based picking priorities, so shipment creation automatically pulls pallets from storage and cases or pick zones, cutting unnecessary forklift trips.
  • Picker Reassignment lets supervisors hand off an in-progress pick to a new associate without unpicking or rescanning completed work, turning breaks, lunches, and staffing changes into a seamless handoff instead of a time-consuming redo. For more details see Warehouse Planning Strategies

  • Shop for Rates Usability redesigns carrier selection to prioritize the lowest-cost services, filter by one or more carriers, and provide clearer labels and shipment context, helping teams choose the right service with fewer clicks and greater confidence.
  • EasyPost Shipping Address Verification gives shippers a side-by-side review of suggested address corrections before a label is purchased, reducing costly mis-shipments while keeping automated workflows fast. For more details see Process Shipments

  • EasyPost Alternate Low-Cost Carriers adds support for emerging regional carriers like Veho, SmartKargo, and UniUni, letting teams compare them against traditional carriers in Shop for Rates and diversify their carrier mix without leaving Acumatica. For more information see Carriers

Acumatica 2026:R2 is built to simplify workflows, improve visibility, and provide a powerful, easy-to-use solution for distributors.

Retail Features

The 2026:R2 Retail features are features tailored to the commerce needs of B2B, B2C, and DTC organizations. Acumatica Retail 2026:R2 tackles the integration, online returns and exchanges, and sync challenges organizations know well.

Retailers asked Acumatica for the features they needed, and Acumatica followed through by addressing those needs in the new product release:

  • Scaling B2B on BigCommerce? Expanded B2B Native integration adds company export, bidirectional synchronization, and a smoother migration path from B2B Edition to Acumatica's native B2B Connector. For more details see BigCommerce Stores

  • Managing Shopify online exchanges? 2026:R2 now brings online returns and exchanges into Acumatica, reducing manual reconciliation and keeping financials, inventory, and fulfillment aligned. For more details see Order Synchronization: Import of POS Exchanges.
  • Need better visibility into sync activity? AI-powered Sync History helps teams analyze synchronization statistics faster, making it easier to spot patterns, understand performance, and monitor connector health with greater confidence.

Construction and Professional Services Features

Acumatica is committed to helping contractors and project-driven businesses manage increasingly complex jobs — from initial budget through final billing — with greater visibility, control, and speed. Today’s construction and professional services firms often break complex work into multiple sub-projects, phases, or engagements, each carrying its own costs, billing, and compliance requirements. That creates challenges like:

  • Jobs split across sub-projects lack a single, consolidated view of cost and revenue.
  • Hard to track Change orders and their billing histories, making it difficult to answer owner and auditor questions with confidence.
  • Miscoded time, expenses, and scattered subcontractor compliance documents slow down billing and add risk to project delivery.

Acumatica 2026:R2 builds on the full project lifecycle with new capabilities shaped directly by customer and community feedback. In this new release those new features include:

  • Parent-Child Projects – roll up costs, revenue, and reporting from multiple sub-projects into a single consolidated view, without losing visibility into individual job detail.

  • AI-powered project recommendations – a new assistant that surfaces insights to support faster, more confident decisions on construction jobs.
  • Enhanced Change Management workflows – improved billing history and visibility into the financial impact of every change order.
  • Smarter billing for Professional Services – a new AI assistant delivers real-time insight into engagement health and risk, while Reassign Costs Across Projects lets teams correct miscoded time and expenses without breaking the billing flow.
  • A new Construction Vendor Portal – a secure, self-service workspace that centralizes subcontractor onboarding, compliance documents, and credential tracking.
